At the young age of 18, Allyson Felix had already won her first Olympic medal as a track and sprint athlete.

Now 26 years old, this Californian born and raised athlete has added 4 Olympic gold medals under her belt, 3 of which she won during the recently concluded 2012 Summer Olympics in London, UK.

Now I’m wondering what I was doing at 18 years old…

But even before she got all those medals, an athlete like Allyson would have already applied the diet-and-exercise regime in her daily life.

Tip No.1: Indulge Smart

For a person like Allyson, she believes that having an indulgence to break the strict diet and lifestyle she has is an important part of her strategy.

“I have a treat bag; I splurge there,” says Allyson who loves to eat Ben & Jerry’s Oatmeal Cookie Chunk Ice Cream.

You can say that it’s both her cheat and reward to herself. “I love food. I can eat quite a bit… I do splurge quite a bit.

I’m really into ice cream, and I love Ben & Jerry’s Oatmeal Cookie Chunk. That’s my favorite, so when I do splurge I always go with that,” adds the athlete.

Tip No. 2: Have Fun

Working out alone can sometimes make you feel bored and lax because there isn’t anyone present to put a little pressure on you.

Allyson also says that working out with friends will help you be more consistent if you’ve scheduled work out times while chatting and enjoying the work.

Tip No. 3: Stay Motivated

Sometimes people lose their motivation while working out for long periods of time.

To help her stay motivated, Allyson always goes back to her goals, what she wants to accomplish in the future, and what’s next in line of her agenda.

Setting goals is really important. Try thinking of these things when you feel like you just want to stay in your bed the whole day to get you back on track of your weight loss or healthy living regime.

Tip No. 4: Snack Often

When it comes to eating habits, Allyson advices us to eat wisely.  She recommends healthy snacks and not junk food.

Some of her favorites are pistachios, granola bars, frozen grapes, and little smoothies.

I wish I had an earlier start with my current healthy lifestyle but despite that, it’s never too late to start embracing these tips from a world-class athlete like Allyson.

Maintaining a healthy body through proper exercise and the right food intake would be easier when you keep these tips in mind.
