Are you tired of seeing skinny girls eat like maniacs and never gain a pound, only because they have a “high metabolism”?

Or perhaps you’ve been carrying a few extra pounds around your middle -is your metabolism to blame? Or something else?

How fast or slow your metabolism functions depend a great deal on your age, your sex, your body shape, and other genetic factors that are out of your control.

But don’t let that stop you from reaching your weight loss goals.

You can make the most out of your metabolism and burn fat faster than ever with these simple tips and tricks:

According to experts at WebMD, your metabolism involves a complex network of hormones and enzymes that regulate the conversion of food into fuel and how quickly you burn that fuel for energy.

“The process of metabolism establishes the rate at which we burn our calories and, ultimately, how quickly we gain weight or how easily we lose it.”

Unfortunately, not everyone burns those calories at the same rate. Here are some ideas to help you burn fat faster:

Go Green

Green Tea has been a part of Chinese medicine for thousands of years – and for good reason! It offers a wide variety of benefits: lowers cholesterol, fights cancer, reduces risk of heart disease, and it even helps to fight obesity.

According to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, individuals who consumed Green tea extract three times a day saw a significant boost in their metabolic rate – as much as 4%, which is about the equivalent of 60 extra calories a day. “I think people should know these are important studies,” says Nieca Goldberg, MD, “”I think green tea, because of its antioxidant value, may have heart benefits.”

Though you could try to brew up several cups of green tea a day, you might be more interested in a fat burner that offers concentrated green tea instead.

Some of the top fat burners on the market use green tea as their main ingredient to boost your metabolism, so you’ll want to check those out if you’re scraped for time. (I suggest going to to read in-depth reviews on various supplements first, just so you don’t find a dud of a diet pill by mistake.)

Water, Water, Everywhere. . .

Cutting out the soda and the sugared drinks is the first step to eliminating empty calories and losing weight, but did you know that drinking water can help you burn fat faster?

In a German study (featured here) researchers observed that when you drink 17 oz. of water (a little over two cups) within a 10 minute time frame, your metabolic rate increases by nearly 30 percent. Consequently, drinking 2 liters (a little over 8 cups) of water a day could increase your caloric expenditure by 400 kj (95 calories).

Divide and Conquer

Between work, school, and social engagements, finding time to hit the gym for an hour or so a day can seem like an impossible feat.

Fortunately, breaking up your exercise session into manageable chunks of time (10 minutes before breakfast, 10 minutes during your lunch break, 10 minutes while making dinner, etc.) can still give you the metabolism boost you need to burn fat faster than ever before.

In a 2010 article published by USA today, a study revealed that 10 minutes of brisk exercise triggers metabolic changes that last over an hour.

Dr. Pamela Peeke explains, “Just a five-minute walk around the house every hour translates into an extra 200 to 300 calories burned every day

As you can see, it doesn’t take a lot to get your metabolism functioning at its peak. Just a few extra tweaks to your diet and you’ll be well on your way to losing those stubborn pounds.
